Sunset Beach
About the Sunset Beach Blinds measure-and-fit service
Sunset Beach Blinds measures, makes and fits window shading for the glass-walled houses along this stretch of the Blaauwberg coast. Every product is specified for two things at once: the west-facing view the glass was built to frame, and the salt and wind that come with living directly on the Atlantic.
Shading specified for a house with two fronts
A Sunset Beach living room is usually one long pane of glass facing west or north-west, built to put Table Mountain, Lion's Head and the water through it at eye level. The same glass takes the lowest, harshest sun of the day at exactly the hours the house is occupied. Most of the housing stock is newer-build and flat-roofed with very little overhang, because an overhang would cut the sightline it was meant to shade, so there is almost no architecture doing the shading job before a blind gets involved.
The range is filed by where the shading actually sits. Inside the glass: sunscreen, blockout and double roller blinds, day-night fabrics, cellular honeycomb, aluminium venetian and vertical blinds. Outside the glass, which is the premium tier on this coast and the one we lead with on west-facing glass: external venetian blinds, roller shutters, folding-arm awnings and zip screens, all in marine-grade powder-coated aluminium with sealed cassettes. And on a motor from the start: concealed ceiling-recess blinds for double-volume glass and skylight or shaped blinds for raked gable windows that no chain can reach.
Where the service works
Sunset Beach is home ground, and the same free-measure, written-quote process runs along the Blaauwberg coast, adjusted for how exposed each stretch actually is. Bloubergstrand brings an older beachfront core, rebuilt and renovated homes with existing reveals and wall substrates, and a wind so consistent that wind-sensor motorisation is the only exterior spec we put on the table. Big Bay is newer apartment and townhouse development where body corporate approval is checked before any exterior fixing is proposed.
Melkbosstrand is a quieter, low-rise coastal village with a real share of holiday homes that stand closed between visits, so the brief there is hardware and blockout that work on the one weekend a month someone is home. Sunningdale sits inland of the beachfront on standard family stands, with normal-sized windows, early-morning bedrooms and child-safe operation as the default, and powder-coated fittings at a level below the full marine spec a direct frontage needs.
How a job runs, in one order
An enquiry arrives through the form or the on-page chat, with the rooms, the products you are considering and how exposed the opening is. One of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to agree a time for the free in-home measure. On site the consultant measures every opening, walks both elevations to confirm their true bearing, checks reveal depth and wall build-up, looks at how exposed each corner is to the south-easter and where the power sits, and brings fabric and marine-grade hardware samples so choices are made in your own light.
The quotation that follows is written and itemised opening by opening, so nothing turns up later that you had not already seen. Pricing is confirmed in writing after the measure and lead times are stated in that quote before you commit to anything. Once you accept, every piece is manufactured to your measurements and installed cleanly by the fitting team, salt-air hardware included, and the controls, tensioners and any wind sensor are checked and handed over on the day.
What we specify as standard here
On west glass the daytime default is a low-openness sunscreen roller, paired with a night-time layer for the promenade-facing privacy problem, because mesh that hides a room by day reverses once the lamps come on. Every exterior product is motorised with wind-sensor auto-retract and marine-grade powder-coated aluminium as the base spec, not an upsell. Zipped guide channels go on anything wind-exposed instead of loose drop screens, because sand in an open track is the failure mode we design around. Where a blind runs on a chain or cord, a tensioner goes on with it, and for nurseries we recommend wand-tilt, cordless or motorised operation.
What we do not claim
We do not guess prices from a photograph or a plan. Reveal depth, wall build-up, exposure and power position all change the specification, and a visit answers all of them, which is why the measure is free and the figure is only ever given in writing afterwards. The roller shutters we fit are a shading product: rigid aluminium slats that roll down from an external headbox to control heat, glare and light. They are not security-rated, and if security is the goal we will say so at the enquiry stage and point you to the right product rather than let it be assumed.
We do not describe marine-grade hardware as maintenance-free, because on this coastline it is not; it wants an occasional fresh-water rinse and we say so upfront. We do not grant estate, body corporate or municipal approvals and never describe them as certainties. And we only quote the products listed on this site: made-to-measure interior blinds, the exterior shading line, and motorisation across both.
Getting in touch
The only two routes in are the enquiry form and the on-page chat; there is no call centre and no automated booking. Tell us the rooms, the elevation that is giving you trouble and anything you already have in mind, and one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to arrange the free in-home measure and the written per-window quote that follows it. Anything you send is used only to arrange that consultation call-back and is handled in line with POPIA.
